Derrida’s Pharmacy

“A text is not a text unless it hides from the first comer, from the first glance, the law of its composition and the rules of its game”: so begins Derrida’s 1968 essay “Plato’s Pharmacy” in Dissemination. This year’s collegium will be devoted to this seminal text and to the developments of several of its themes in Derrida’s later works. Courses and lectures will revolve around themes such as the technology of writing, the family scene, writing and democracy, khōra, and questions of animality and life in Derrida’s final works.

All morning sessions will be held in the “Sala degli specchi” of the Accademia degli Illuminati, located just off the main piazza of Città di Castello. All afternoon lectures and text seminars will be held at the Hotel Le Mura.

All breakfasts and dinners are taken at the Hotel Le Mura unless otherwise noted. Breakfast begins at 7:00. Dinner is served at 19:30. A lunch will also be offered for €5 at the Hotel Le Mura from 12:15-13:30. Lunch may also be had in the town.  Information about text seminars will be posted at the hotel at the start of each week.
